In 2022, the South Korean electronics conglomerate aims to roll out 89", 101" and 114" Micro LED TVs. Production of the 89" model was about to kick off this May; however, the schedule was delayed due to unsatisfactory yield and the COVID pandemic. The three TVs, with a 4K resolution and small size, will all be based on LTPS TFT, enabling them to individually control each discrete circuit.
TheElec also mentioned that LTPS-TFT panels will be provided by AUO, while PlayNitride will be the LED supplier. Samsung is also developing the required LTPS-TFT technology, making it a potential supplier of the next-gen technology.
Reportedly, the 89" TV will cost USD 80,000, with the 101" and 114" models being priced at USD 90,000 and USD 100,000, respectively.
As TheElec reported, producing a small Micro LED TV is more difficult because the smaller LED size tends to make the mass transfer process more challenging, hence the lower yield. Samsung's 89" TV will be equipped with 11.30 million Micro LEDs with a pixel pitch of 0.44 mm.
